Activity 1

Explain that the focus of this activity is to explore the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games internet sites to discover interesting information to share with other rappers.

Read, discuss, interpret and summarise information about the Beijing Olympic Games from the following websites:

Rap sheet 1 and Rap sheet 2 will help you with this activity.

Activity 2

Explain that the focus of this activity is the investigation of the components of a healthy, active lifestyle. Students will discuss their ideas and jointly create a statement, or list points, about what it means to be healthy to share with other rappers.

These resources will help you respond to Activity 2 for Rap point 1:

Optional activities

  1. Use this resource to help your students to prepare questions to ask an Australian Olympic athlete. Questions to ask an Olympian pdf.

  2. Organise a Mini Olympics for your class. It may include traditional events such as long jump, high jump, relays and running races, or novelty events such as three legged races, vortex javelin, frisbee discus and sock shot put. A class Mini Olympics could be the topic for your newspaper article in response to Rap point 3

  3. Share ideas from other schools by watching podcasts like the one from St Leo’s Primary School in Victoria.

Posting response to Rap point 1

  • prepare the response to Rap point 1 with the class

  • student/s (rap representative) type the response, edit and save

  • teacher facilitates the student/s use of the word processor and blogging procedures to post the response to Rap point 1 once the teacher has approved the final text.
