Activity 1
Explain that the focus of this activity is to write a sports news article for a newspaper. The focus of the article may be:
- an event at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
- your school sports carnival
- your school or class mini Olympics
- an athlete competing at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Use may wish to use your information from Rap sheet 6 to help you with this task.
Share your news article with the other rappers.

Optional activities – photographs and podcasts
- Video your sports day or Mini Olympics and send it to the Gallery.
- Take photographs of your school sports event and send them to the Gallery.
- You may wish to organise them into a photo movie with Microsoft Movie Maker
- Go to the School Libraries and Information Literacy website to Watch a movie and then read the linked article, ‘Digital movie making in the library’, Scan 27(1) by Rhonda Parnis.
- Read the article, ‘Digital movie making II: Hollywood comes to us’, by Dr Tom Benjamin in Scan 27(3) to find out how to make animated movies. If you have time to make a movie about the Olympics or another sporting event, please send it to the Gallery to share with other rappers. Why not watch the sports news on television for some ideas? You may decide to have a reporter playing a role in your movie.
Posting response to Rap point 3
- prepare the response to Rap point 3 with the class
- student/s (rap representative) type the response, edit and save
- teacher facilitates the student/s use of the word processor and blogging procedures to post the response to Rap point 3 once the teacher has approved the final text.
