Sharon Lyons

My name is Sharon Lyons and I am a Wiradjuri woman. I was born in Narrandera, NSW in 1957. My parents are Liallian and Billy Lyons. I have four sisters and five brothers. My father was a Wiradjuri man and he taught me all about my Aboriginality. When I was young I spent a lot of time with my Dad and he was always telling me stories. The Bunyip (which we are looking at in this rap) was one of those stories. Aboriginal stories always have a message, and The Bunyip has two messages: always respect your Elders; and don't go swimming alone. I hope whoever reads this story enjoys it as much as I did as a child.

I am currently the Aboriginal Education Consultant for the Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Deniliquin Districts of the NSW Department of Education and Training.
