Listening Checklist

An audiocassette with My girragundji on one side and The binna binna on the reverse is available from Louis Braille Audio*.

This audiocassette is an excellent resource because:

  • the whole novel can be listened to in 80 minutes;
  • Boori Pryor, the author, reads the text, which reflects Aboriginal storytelling.

A good preparation for listening to the tape is to draw student's attention to these elements of oral communication:

Stress - relative emphases given in pronunciation , loudness, pitch, or duration.
Pace
Pause
Tone - designates the mood or atmosphere of a work.
Inflection or intonation - variation in pitch to express the speaker's attitude or marks the difference between a statement or a question.
Rhythm
Language and word choice
