Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus!Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus!
Walker, 2004
ISBN 1844285138
An amusing picture book, this Caldecott Honor Book is about a pigeon trying to convince the reader to allow him to drive a bus. Simply sketched illustrations cleverly show the pigeon’s emotions as he works through his persuasive argument. A bit of fun, this story could lead into interesting discussions on the reasons why we should or shouldn’t allow the pigeon’s request. Limited repetitious language would encourage memorisation and audience participation in a read aloud situation. The final pages could lead to students developing their own episodes to continue the pigeon’s dream to drive, with Stage 3 students integrating ICT skills to produce a humorous presentation. R. Parnis
