This rap will be available during Term 2, 2005. It will focus on working towards Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) outcomes in the PDHPE K–6 syllabus.

Joining the rap

From 26 April 2005, you can view the support material for this rap and prepare to participate by entering your email address in the boxes below and clicking the Submit buttons. Please ensure you have registered the email addresses before doing so. Note that the rap does not start until the week of 2 May 2005.

Teacher email will not be archived to protect privacy. The teacher rap runs concurrently with the book rap to provide additional support for teachers, and the opportunity to discuss issues which may arise during the rap.

You will receive confirmation emails for your Class group and the Teacher support listserv. Please save these messages as they contain important email addresses, and simply follow the instructions these contain when posting messages once the rap starts.

Rap points

These discussion questions guide the book rap. The question for the week is posted to the rap at the beginning of that week by the coordinator. Class groups post their answers and can respond via the rap to other school's replies during the relevant week for that rap point.

Introductions

Each class sends introductory statement to the rap.

Week 3 - 9 May 2005

Rap point 1

Theme: Ways to be active

To be submitted to the rap

  • Each class provides a brief statement explaining to other students why it is important to be physically active.
  • Classes provide three examples of ways that students in their class could increase their physical activity levels.

Week 4 - 16 May 2005

Rap point 2

Theme: The need for safety in physical activity and games and sports

To be submitted to the rap:

  • Students develop a checklist of considerations that must be taken into account when participating in particular physical activities, games or sports.
  • Each class decides on three examples that represent their class and sends them to the rap.

Week 5 - 23 May 2005

Rap point 3

Theme: Safety issues in familiar environments

To be submitted to the rap:

  • Using the information that students have gathered, each class determines what the main safety messages for pedestrians and bicycle riders should be for the following groups:
    • Kindergarten students?
    • Year 2 students?
    • Years 5 or 6 students?
    • For each group, classes select at least two main messages for pedestrians and two for bicycle riders and send them to the rap.
