Rap point 2 – Being a good sport

RAP TASKS FOR THIS WEEK
There are over 6,000 athletes and officials from 71 nations competing in 16 different sports at Melbourne’s XVIII Commonwealth Games . These athletes have been selected as the best in their country. Some are the best in the world.
Activity 1:
In small groups, develop a profile for one event or sport being held at the Commonwealth Games. You may need to gather information from a number of sources, for example:
- event profiles from the Commonwealth Games site resources that are in your school library
- discussions with the students who participate in these sports.
Activity 2:
From your observations of each of the sports profiled and from your own experience participating in games and sports, what attributes (characteristics and qualities) are needed in order for someone to be considered a good sportsperson? As a class, brainstorm and develop a mind map to record your ideas about the attributes (characteristics and qualities) of a good sportsperson.

Individually or in small groups, write a brief description of what skills and attributes are required to participate in your favourite sport.
TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE RAP
1. Share responses with the rest of the class and select a number of examples to submit to the rap.
2. Discuss as a class and submit a short written response (2 paragraphs) describing the attributes (characteristics and qualities) of a good sportsperson?
