Rap point 3 - Safe ways to be active
Term 1, Week 9: week beginning 27 March 2006
RAP TASKS FOR THIS WEEK
Activity 1:
As a class, review or revise the attributes suggested by other rappers and add them to your class list.
Activity 2:
As a class, brainstorm examples of physical activities that the students currently participate in. Ask students to consider informal physical activities such as riding a bike, skipping and skateboarding as well as formal games such as soccer, netball and cricket.
Ask questions such as:
- What sports do you play?
- What physical activity do you do?
- What types of games do you play?
- In what ways do you help out around the house?
- Where do you play after school and on weekends?
- How do you travel to and from school?
Group these activities as Individual or Group activities by writing an ‘I’ or a ‘G’ next to each activity on the board. Identify which activities require equipment by writing an ‘E’ next to it on the board.
Activity 3:
Create a class definition of physical activity by asking students questions such as:
- What does it mean to be active?
- What does it mean to be physical?
- What does it mean to be physically active?
Activity 4:
Divide the students into ‘home’ groups of five. Each member of the ‘home’ group is to become an ‘expert’ in one of the five areas below. The ‘experts’ from each group join together and explore the pages from the following links:
At school
At home
With friends
On your own
At your local club
Ask the ‘experts’ to compile at least three examples of ways to get active in order to share these with their ‘home’ group.
After the three examples have been compiled, each ‘home’ group comes back together and the ‘experts’ share their findings.
