Filmic technique and filmic elements worksheet – teacher’s version Literacy display This is a graphic display of words and phrases associated with the rap text Noah & Saskia. A literacy display could be used for spelling, inspiration, and memory jogging, when students are discussing the text, and working on emails and writing tasks. Teacher and students write the words on cardboard as they discover them during the rap. Words are displayed for reference during the unit. Definitions could be attached. A literacy display is a strong visual resource. It can take any form that works for the text and the class. A literacy tree is a tried and proven shape. Here, a large trunk with long branches is drawn and posted on a wall. Large displays engage students. The words are stapled up as leaves loosely aligned to the branches. For Noah & Saskia, consider using a computer as the base graphic, with the words posted around the screen. e.g.
A graphic of characters could be helpful for students’ understanding of relationships in the series. Teachers could distribute this as a complete guide or an incomplete cloze type task.
