Year 4 rappers at Penrith investigated the mysteries of their school environment

Year 3 Penrith PS

In our school's leaf litter, we found:

1. a piece of bark with a white cocoon or egg sac inside it. A creature
had glued leaves and bark together with bits of web. Another creature
had spun a second cocoon or egg sac on top.

2. a dirty piece of a plastic foam drinking cup, perhaps from last
year's peer support parties. It was hard to see between the leaf litter
and bark chips.

3. a kind of native bush fruit that had grown out of the middle of a
blossom. When we pressed it, black dust came out the tiny hole in the
centre. The fruit started to whither overnight and looks quite
different now.

4. an old seed pod. The seeds were gone and the pod had turned black.

5. different types of leaves; some with autumn colours, some with
speckles and some which had started to rot.
