The following steps will help you if you are considering a full time distance education enrolment.
Step one: Check the enrolment criteria
Students must:
- be resident in NSW; and live in an isolated area not served by a local school or early childhood service; or
- have a special circumstance which prevents them from attending school on a regular basis.
In all cases, students are expected to access an appropriate local provision where possible. Distance education schools will require evidence that no suitable local placement is available before processing an enrolment application. More detailed information about the enrolment criteria can be found in the Distance Education Guidelines (PDF ) or by contacting your local distance education school.
Step two: Consider the level of commitment required
The student will require the support of a responsible adult to perform the role of supervisor during school term time. The requirements of the supervisor role are detailed in the Distance Education Guidelines. Some aspects of the role are legal obligations under the Education Act 1990. Others are necessary to ensure the success of distance learning.
Step three: Find a convenient Distance Education school
Whilst there is no specific enrolment area [DN3] for distance education schools, it is recommended that you contact the distance education school that is closest to you.
Step four: Research
You may want more information to help you make an informed decision about your child's education. All distance education schools host websites withinformation available for you to find out more about the school. Our principals are also more than happy to discuss and demonstrate their school's achievements, activities and features, so give them a call to make an appointment.
Step five: Contact your chosen Distance Education school
