John Mather commenced as Regional Director Hunter/Central Coast at the start of the 2005 school year.

John has 15 years experience in senior management and leadership in the New Zealand Ministry of Education at a district and regional level.

He has also worked as an Education Officer in the area of transition from school to further training or work and has managed an Education Resource Centre to provide professional development support and learning resources to schools. Prior to this he worked in secondary schools as a teacher and Head of Department.

Prior to taking up this role, John was Regional Manager for the Southern Region of the New Zealand Ministry of Education which comprised the whole of the South Island plus Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands. Within the region there were 700 schools and 750 early childhood sites.
