Welcome to the South Western Sydney Region

The South Western Sydney Region of schools incorporates 274 schools, catering for the varying needs of almost 130,000 students.

The Region's work is focussed on the celebration of public education.  We are highly responsive to our local communities' needs.

In putting a range of educational initiatives into place, we are continually building the Region's ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learning.

Our focus is clearly on supporting the core activities of our schools and supporting the staff who deliver this quality service.

The Region's schools are formed into ten school community groups.  Each of these groups is supported by a School Education Director.

Tom Urry has a long history with the NSW Department of Education and Training, beginning his career as a secondary Social Science teacher at Busby High School in 1974.  He has taught at Macquarie Fields High School, Bankstown Boys High School (now Bankstown Senior College) and Ingleburn High School.  He also served as Principal at Lurnea High School for many years. 

That extensive in-school experience, combined with stints as Director, School and Regional Operations with the Office of Schools and Relieving Director, School Operations at the Department's State Office, mean that Tom is ideally placed to promote the values, achievements and future of public education in South Western Sydney Region.
