Sydney Regional Director appointed

Dr Phil Lambert has been appointed Sydney Regional Director under the Department's new administration structure.

Dr Lambert is one of 10 Regional Directors who represent the start of significant cultural and service delivery changes in the Department.

This new structure has given the Department a renewed focus on supporting frontline teachers and school staff and enables the provision of better responses to local issues.

The creation of school educational areas within the regional structure also ensures that support services, such as curriculum consultants, welfare and training experts, remain close to local schools.

The Sydney Region office is in Ultimo, with school educational area offices in Bondi, St Peters (Port Jackson School Education Area), Sutherland and Arncliffe (St George School Education Area); 229 public schools are located in the Region.

Phil Lambert has a strong background with both the NSW Department of Education and Training and the NSW Board of Studies, commencing in the Department as a primary teacher at Yennora Public School in 1977. Following this, Dr Lambert held several school-based positions, including executive teacher, assistant principal and principal.

In 1994, Dr Lambert was appointed the Inspector of Primary Education with the NSW Board of Studies. His recent appointments include Director of Early Childhood, Primary and Rural Education and Assistant Director-General for Primary Education, plus the supervision of all Western NSW school districts.
