Passfield Park School caters for students from four to eighteen years of age with a moderate or severe intellectual disability. The schools aim is to provide a program based on individual student need to enable independence, responsibility, productivity and happiness. To achieve this aim, the school has established a school-wide Communication policy to support all students, both verbal and non-verbal, a Behaviour Management Program based on positive behaviour intervention and a curriculum which combines academic and functional learning. The use of technology to support communication and understanding in all areas has enhanced learning opportunities for all students. Passfield Park Schools well established work experience programs and transition planning for high school students has successfully placed Years 11 and 12 students in TAFE Car Detailing, Spray Painting, Hospitality and Horticulture courses. As a result, students have gained work experience placements or full time jobs in the automotive industry, retail, hospitality and supported employment. Community access and integration programs are an important aspect of educational planning for all students at Passfield Park School. The school is well situated to provide these opportunities as we are part of the Sarah Redfern Campus and close to shopping, transport and community leisure facilities. Students participate in weekly community access programs with an emphasis on travel training and appropriate behaviour and use of community facilities. These programs have resulted in an increased number of high school students travelling independently to school and in the community and primary aged students integrating successfully into Sarah Redfern Public School. The emphasis on child centred education at Passfield Park School is reflected in the school motto of My Best is the Best.
