Farrer is unique in Australian education, being the only boys' agricultural secondary school which caters for both boarding and day students. Special emphasis is placed on the agricultural curriculum, but a broad curriculum is also on offer for students from rural NSW who do not wish to return to the land or seek employment in an agricultural field. Other areas of emphasis at Farrer include sport and student welfare. The special relationship between students, staff and parents is nurtured and promoted through the concept of the "Farrer Family". The word "Family" is not simply mouthed in our public appearances, but is deeply embedded in the culture of Farrer. The Farrer Creed places great store on values such as respect, trust, loyalty, support and responsibility. Farrer embodies a conservative culture. School uniform is emphasized and is traditional in style, including blazer, tie and broad-rimmed hat. The school, as a whole, marches each week as part of the school assembly. A prefect system is in place within the school and has an important role to play in the welfare and supervision of students, particularly within the boarding school.
The New South Wales Department of Education and Communities support students with special needs in public schools in a range of ways. This may include support classes for students in regular and special schools. You can also discuss your child's learning needs with the principal of your child's school.
