Bourke High School serves a small isolated community in the far north west of NSW. Of the school's student population of 178, 55% identify as being Aboriginal. The school features a strong vocational education and training focus in all years and has recently been announced as the recipient of a Director-Generals Excellence Award for its vocational programs. There is also a strong welfare focus with programs in place to address students' social, as well as, educational needs. The stated aim of the school is that all students can achieve success and the goal is for all students leaving school to enter employment or further education and training.
