Keira Technology High School is situated in central Wollongong. The school was reestablished as a Technology High School in 1990. Its success in meeting this charter has been reflected since in a number of ways. These include: The awarding, by the Department of Education and Training, of the title of "Centre of Excellence in the Use of Technology Across the Curriculum" in 1995; and the retention of its "Technology High School" status in 1999. Both these recognitions followed full school reviews by external, independent teams. In 2000, two chief education officers (school improvement) have recommended the school's middle schooling initiatives be recognised under the government's "Outstanding Programs in Schools" program. The excellence of our programs has also been recognised by tertiary institutions: Wollongong University chose our school to be its partner in the production of three internationally acclaimed CD ROMs; "Lake Iluka", "Exploring the Nardoo" and "Aspire"; Sydney University invited the school to join its "Innovations and Best Practice Project". Only one hundred schools Australia-wide were invited to participate in this project. Over the past decade: Educators from Japan, Korea, the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Denmark have visited the school to learn about its practices and programs; and fifty-four New South Wales high schools (at last count) have requested copies of our literacy programs.

Students with disability and additional learning and support needs

The New South Wales Department of Education and Communities support students with disability and additional learning and support needs in public schools in a range of ways. This may include specialist support classes for students in regular and special schools; the Integration, Funding Support program which provides targeted funding for eligible students; and learning and support resourcing. Every regular public school in NSW receives a specialist teacher allocation and flexible funding based on the size of the school and the learning needs of their students.

You can discuss your child's learning needs and planning for their personalised learning and support with the principal of your child's school. For more information about the full range of support services in NSW public schools go to Disability, Learning & Support.
