athens04_rap FROM ATHENS

FROM: Lachie Milne
Canoe slalom

Hi,

My name is Lachie Milne, I am a 25 year old medical student and in the 2004 Australian Olympic Team in the double canoe event in canoe slalom.

I started canoe slalom when I was 14, having been involved in almost every sport I can think of during school. Having surfed a lot and swum competitively from a young age, the transition to another water sport was very natural. When I was at primary school I always dreamed of competing in the Olympics, but I never would have guessed that it would be in canoe slalom. I started out in the kayak event and represented Australia from 1994 until 2002 in that event. Late in 1992 I changed to the double canoe event and went to the world championships last year before being selected in the Olympic Team this year. While our results in our first season were good, we have improved since then, and have been in the top ten in almost all the races this season.

Apart from my events, I am looking forward to being involved in the biggest sporting event ever! I am sure the Olympic Village will be fantastic, as will the opportunity to meet so many new people from so many different backgrounds and from so many different sports.

Thanks for supporting me through the Athens Olympic rap!

Cheers

Lachie Milne
