Dear Rappers

Welcome to Rap Point One! Hopefully you have had time to read all the wonderful introductions from all of the rappers who are working with us on the Belonging Book Rap and have located the areas where our rappers go to school.

Jeannie Baker states in her author's notes that ' we depend completely on the land to feed us and suppport us and inspire us.' Therefore, 'we belong to the land. If we keep it healthy, it will sustain the web of life on which we depend.'

Throughout this week look at 'Belonging' and discover how the characters interact with each other and their local environment over time. (Rap sheet 1 may assist you with this activity).

How do you view and respond to your environment?

Using the information you gain from 'Belonging', look around your local environment and discover the changes that have taken place over time.
Can you find reasons for these changes?   How have these changes affected you?  Can you think of any further changes that could have a positive affect on your environment? (Rap sheet 2 may assist you with this activity)

Use the above ideas to prepare your response to Rap Point 1. Once you have formulated your answer post your class response to the rap, using correct email and book rap etiquette.

Remember to read and discuss other rappers’ responses throughout the week. Students might wish to respond to other rappers’ comments via the rap.

I am looking forward to reading your responses!

Happy Rapping
