belonging05_rap Rap Point 1 Beauty Pt.Year 3

Hi Rappers
We hvae been looking at a bridge that we can see from our school. It is
called the Spit Bridge. It is special becasue it goes up like a drawbrdige
to allow sailboats, ferries and yachts to go from Middle harbour to the main
harbour and out to sea.

We looked at lots of pictures of what the bridge looked like a long time ago
and it has changed a lot.

The original bridge was built 99 years ago. It did not open and was much
lower. The new bridge that we can see now is wider and it has a lot more
traffic. It is also higher and has footpaths on both sides for walkers and
cyclists. The new bridge has traffic lights and gates and bells to warn the
traffic when it is going up. They cleared lots of trees and houses to build
the new road and bridge. Now there is a big park and two marinas near the
bridge.

They had to build the new bridge because there is a lot more traffic and it
is better because it is wider. It is more convenient for peple living on
the northern beaches travelling to the city and work. Some of us live on
that side of the bridge too and cross it every day to come to school. It is
also better for boaters.

Some of the changes that could improve the environment is to widen the
bridge to let more cars through. Also it is inconvenient for cars when they
get stuck in traffic when the bridge is up so they could build a tunnel
instead. They could also make the bridge higher so the boats can pass under
and the cars would not have to wait for boats to pass. Or they could change
the timetble so they don't have to raise the bridge so much.
