Stage one classes are doing this book rap in their library time, so when we thought about changes in our community, we looked out of our library windows. Our library is on the second floor of our school, with windows all down one side, and a long balcony alongside. The library is one of the many changes to our school. Ten years ago, the school was renovated and many classrooms were added and redecorated, including the library.
From the windows we can see the city skyline. It'd be interesting to know what it looked like fifty years ago, without those tall buildings and the sydney tower. We can also see Cooks River and the parklands around it. New apartment blocks have been built in the last few years along the river.
Where a street used to be next to our school, we can see a new playground with gardens and play equipment. So now we have a community garden, just like in the book.
Something we noticed missing were the four big trees near our school fence. They had to be chopped down last year because they were dying. We only have a few trees left in our playground, so there's not a lot of shade.
We can also see the students playing in the playgound. This is a very multicultural school and 98% of the students are from another country. Alot of the students are from Asian countries, and others are from the Middle East and the Pacific Islands and African countries. This is always changing at our school.
So these are some of the changes we can see from our window.
