The novel of the Binna Binna man is an Aboriginal book because of the way
the narrator tells the story. It describes the people and the Aboriginal
things they do. It is an Aboriginal story because of the substantially
aboriginal content in it... The characters are mostly aboriginal, it
contains Aboriginal folk lore, stories and the aspects of it are Aboriginal.
It shows the problems modern aborigines experience and the humour is
distinctly aboriginal For Example: When Shandell gets transformed by the
Binna Binna man, it really happens, it doesn’t happen in the mind as a
result of going insane. She gets over white fullas way and learns to
respect.
It is also Aboriginal because of the dances and rituals at “sister girls”
funeral.
The language the boy contributes to the book making it aboriginal eg: “like
die.” Another contribution is the slang eg: “fulla” “cus” “sis” - many of
the traditional ways that are authored by this man come from Yaroa and the
Aboriginals that occupy it. Also many expressions used are “the sun is
losing its grip touching the edge of the clouds and turning them gold”. The
author gives a very imaginative visual picture in your head, the
descriptions are also very well done and contributes to the story.
The writer of this book who is a young boy has put a lot of aboriginal
beliefs and meaning into this book. The Binna Binna man. Ect. The way this
book is written describing and taking us step by step through every day life
of young and old aboriginals eg meeting Jody butler and going to sister
girl’s funeral. The way the story has been written helps the reader imagine
that they are actually there.
