All of us enjoyed reading The Binna Binna Man and discussing it on
teleconferences. We have learned a lot about the importance of Aboriginal
culture. As all of us want to read the next book in the series, Njunjul The Sun,
so our teacher and librarian are arranging our own book discussion program
next term using a list serve email. As an extension of this program we are
reading other Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, and have an assignment where
we can write either a Dreamtime story, or a contemporary Aboriginal story.
We have learnt a lot about using the technology. As we are Distance Ed
students we learnt to access the Book Rap website by ourselves, find and
download the Rap Sheets, and read the emails from other schools in the
Archives section. As well we started communicating regularly with our
teacher by email. What was frustrating was the technical difficulties. On the
teleconference it was difficult to hear some people, and not all of us have our
computers next to the phone. Some of us had difficulty downloading
attachments to emails, or in returning Rap sheets as attachments. We all found
the pace a bit fast, and so we didnt get time to think about questions for
Boori and Meme, or to respond to the other schools points. We would have
liked more time between each rap point to think and prepare our responses
and to interact by email with some of the other schools.
The best part of the program was being able to talk to the other students in our
class every week and using the internet to read the other schools responses.
We would like to do another Book Rap!
