Dear Rappers,

Our class read the picture book "Are we there yet?" by Alison Lester. The whole story is about a journey around Australia.

We decided to choose only one part of their wonderful journey. We chose Uluru because of its amazing features and the special part it plays in Australian history.

Our token is a colourful plate designed by class members Nikitta and B.J. The round plate depicts the journey around Australia, and the brightly coloured rock is centred on the plate to represent the heart of Australia.  We think the characters would keep this plate in a display cabinet because of it signifies the heart of their trip around Australia.

Uluru is located in Kata Tjuta in the Northern Territory. Uluru is located in the "heart" of Australia.  Uluru is a sacred Aboriginal site. It was listed as a World Heritage site in 1987. It is one of the few World Heritage properties listed for both its natural and cultural values.

Uluru can be seen from 35 kilometres away. It is 348 metres high and 9 kilometres in circumference. It is the world's largest rock in volume. Uluru has many sacred caves, rocks and rock pools on its slopes and hidden in its dark crevices. Uluru is made up from sedimentary rocks that were laid down between 550 and 500 million years ago.

Watching the rock change colour is a spectacular event. The colour changes, result from the effects on the Earth's atmosphere and on the sun's incoming rays. A reflection from the rock and clouds in the sky enhance its vivid colours.

Uluru is a major tourist destination. The Australian government manages the park and are sensitive to the feelings of our Aboriginal ancestors. Uluru and the Kata Tjuta has over 40,000 visitors a year.

We all have a responsibility to look after the National Park so generations to come can experience its wonders. It is a source of pride for all Australians.
