bookweek05_rap point 1 Beaconsfield primary

Dear Fellow Rappers,

Our memento for the book “Refugees,” is a key, to symbolise when they were released from the cage into a new swamp. It represents freedom because they were imprisoned in the cage and also metaphorically the key was used to unlock them from their un-welcoming journey. Since this story is a metaphor about how human refugees find new homes, we think that if anybody was in a detention centre they would want the      key to get out, and while the ducks were in the cage it was like they were in a detention centre, supposedly for the best. Almost free...

The memento we chose for our book (“Belonging” by Jeanie Baker) is a teddy bear. The teddy bear represents the time, life and change of a girl named Tracey’s experiences. Tracey’s life is observed and embodied by the bear throughout her life. This is visually shown as the bear is put into different clothes and costumes as Tracey grows up.

Dear fellow rappers,

We read the book called “At the beach” by Roland Harvey. We chose a black and sooty piece of charcoal as our memento because it represents their favourite night at Crabby Spit Caravan Park when they were dancing around a bonfire and having fun.
