Hi from the silver foxes class SPJ. We chose "At the Beach" for rap point 2.
Roland Harvey's book "At the Beach" was chosen by our class. The author is also the illustrator of this book. The illustrations are very interesting and effective.
Roland Harvey uses many techniques throughout the book.We think the detailed drawings are of particular interest.as they draw the reader in to look at the pictures more closely.Roland Harvey uses pen and ink to outline objects and people. This makes the outlined characters stand out.
Water colour has been used to paint the scenes. To add more interest to objects he uses shadow and colour gradient. He has not used the same colours throughout the book. As a contrast he uses bright colours for cars, clothes and towels.
The U.F.O.s are unexpected in this story.
Light is used to show day and night and the bonfire light draws all the people in.
The camera angle is mostly bird's eye which is fun but on some pages we are drawn in closer and it feels that the reader is part of the scene.
The setting gives the message of a fun, summer holidaywith lots to do.
Other examples relating to this book include the book ''Where's Wally''. This is because the book Where's Wally is looking from a birds eye view similar to some of the pictures in At the Beach.
We are hoping to hear more from you so bye for now!
