Dear
Rappers,
We have
some rappers who are ready for our final rap point, Rap Point 3 this week.
[Continue with your work on previous rap points if you’re not quite up to this
point yet – we will be pleased to read your responses to any rap points this
week – just keep rapping!]
Here is
Rap Point 3.
Rap
Point 3
Identify a social issue*
which appears in a short-listed Picture Book of your choice. Explain the issue
and how it is treated in this particular book (Rap Sheet
5)
Investigate this issue in
your own community, and most importantly, tell us what is being done, by who, to
help. (Rap Sheet 6)
*‘Social
issue’ for our purposes, could be defined as: issues and actions that promote
and enhance the dignity and well-being of humans, animals and the environment in
that society.
As you
can see, this Rap Point has two aspects,
(a)
selecting an issue and examining how it is treated in the book, and
(b)
finding examples of this issue in real life, either in your local community or
on a national or international scale.
We would love to read your thoughts on both aspects in your
response.
Examples
of some of the social issues which are part of these Picture Books, are given in
the Program and Planning outline from the website at: http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/schoollibraries/teaching/raps/bkweek05/bkwkwel.htm
Please
send your responses to any rap points, including your full class and school
name, to this email address:

Happy
rapping!
