Here is our reponse to Rap Point 2b for 'At The Beach' by Roland Harvey.
We have seen in ads where there are non-verbal messages that companies try to send out to the consumer. In a Woolworths ad they use line drawings just like 'At The Beach'.
The outline around the character and objects in the ad is a dark line which makes the shapes stand out. The shapes have been coloured in pastel water colours.
This effect gives a clear message about what they are trying to get across.
Also in 'At The Beach' there was a bird eye's view of the scenes in the book. Everything is also in fine detail.
We have noticed this same technique in books like 'Puzzle Ocean', 'Puzzle Town' which were both by Susannah Leigh and illustrated by Brenda Haw.
Also there's 'Dragon Quest' which was illustrated by Nick Harris. This book has very detailed pages with some of the illustrations being from different view points.
There are many illustrations on each page. The illustrations are well drawn and bold and the reader can interperet the story from the pictures. This draws the reader into the story.
It just shows you don't need words, a picture tells the story.
