We chose the book Belonging by Jeannie Baker because so many issues were mentioned but the greening of the area was the issue most mentioned.
The story set in an urban environment and follows changes that occur in a urban landscape over time as a young girl grows from childhood to adulthood.

The issue of an inner city concrete and brick environment is shown on pages 1 & 2. It looks like a slum area where most people would not like to live.We can see graffiti, a robbery and an alcoholic and a drug taking in the first few pages.

The only thing growing is weeds. The backyard then becomes a green space and the neighbour on the left is trying is trying too to grow things.

Gradually the area turns green and the buildings improve. There is no graffiti, alcohlics or drugs inthe streets. Finally  the area becomes a beautiful green environment that anyone woulld like to live in.

Our area is a mixture of green and blocks of units and flats and older houses. The council has a medium to  high destiny policy in the area.We need to know if all the older houses are going to be turned into blocks and flats. Our parents could go to council meetings to find out.

There would be no money cost, only time to parents, but the council would lose moneyif more green spaces were made according to teachers and parents.
