bookweek06_rap Rap Point 1a

Hello Fellow Rappers
Here are our thoughts on Rap Point 1a - we will send our thoughts on 1b later this week.

The author and illustrator give us the idea that the family in Kisses for Daddy is a loving family. We can tell this from the caring actions of the characters and the gentle facial expressions and body movements. There are lots of smiles, open arms and cuddles in this book. There is a lovely warm feeling in this story and the pictures.

Just the fact that Daddy Bear wants a kiss before Baby Bear goes to bed tells us that the family is loving or affectionate. He does not get cross when Baby Bear won’t give him a big bear kiss but patiently comes up with other kisses he could have instead.

We talked about the Daddy bear being the parent who took Baby Bear to bed. Some of us thought if the characters were stereotypes, then maybe we could have expected Mother Bear to take Baby to bed.  We thought it was interesting that we only met the Mummy bear once and that she was sitting down having a cup of tea and reading a book. Someone thought Daddy bear may have been giving Mummy a break. Another thought Daddy wanted some quality time with Baby Bear. Baby Bear gives his Mum a kiss because he loves her.

Daddy Bear doesn’t get angry when Baby bear was procrastinating or putting off going to bed. He gently begins taking him to bed and actually gets Baby Bear to get ready for bed anyway. It was quite gentle to call Baby Bear a grumbly bear. We decided that Daddy Bear cares whether Baby Bear is cared for, he carries him, cleans him, he dresses him, tucks him in and wants him to get his rest.

We talked about who put us to bed when we were younger and whether there were ‘Mum’ jobs or ‘Dad’ jobs in our families. We also thought about our families and whether we had two parents and only one child, like the Bear family. There were many different families in our class. We were not sure in the end what was typical.

In the end when Baby Bear tells Daddy Bear to come back for a bear kiss – and a bear hug – we know that Baby Bear really loves Daddy Bear and doesn’t want him to miss out.

We decided we would have been disappointed if Baby Bear hadn’t called Daddy Bear back for a kiss. We could almost feel the big bear hug at the end.

We are still ‘the no-name’ rappers!!! at this stage.
