bookweek06_rap rap point 1b Annie's Chair

Dear Fellow Rappers

Isn't this fun? We compared Annie’s family with the bear family. The first difference is one is a bear family and the other is a human family. There are two children in Annie’s family and they have pets. Annie is the youngest member in the family, Baby Bear is the smallest in his family. Annie’s family is happy like Baby Bear’s but Annie’s brother Jack causes her some problems especially when he wants to sit on her chair.

The bright colours in the story are happy colours and we noticed cheerful daisies on the end papers and on the front cover.

We loved the part where Annie was “boiling mad”. Deborah Niland (wrote and illustrated the book) has drawn Annie’s eyes big, the eyebrows crooked, she is frowning with her arms crossed. We can see and feel she is cross.

Both books had some hints. If you look carefully you will see a small part of the chair and Benny’s tail. This is like the giraffe shadow, the koala on the stairs, the bat towel, the crocodiles and bears hidden in the tiles and the mouse bedhead in Kisses for Daddy.

We decided the chair is almost a character in the story.

Benny is very important in the story, so important he nearly fills a doublespread picture all by himself. The only time we meet Annie’s mum, she is relaxing and reading the paper just like Mrs Bear who was reading a book.

On the last pages of both books there is a happy, ‘together’ feeling. Annie with Benny and Baby Bear with Daddy.
