bookweek06_rap Rap point 1

In the book, Annie's Chair by Deborah Niland we identified respect,
understanding, sharing and caring in the family. Respect and
understanding for Annie's wishes regarding her chair and Annie sharing
the chair in the end with Benny because he understood how she felt when
she cried. We talked about the family not being perfect but realistic as
Annie yells at Benny for sitting on her chair and Annie's brother teases
her as brothers sometimes do to sisters. The colourful illustrations
give a warm family feeling especially when they are pictured altogether
in the living room. It is in this illustration that Dad is caringly
offering Mum cookies while she sits smilingly reading the paper. We
talked about the stereotype being the otherway around. Then we ran out
of time.
