Dear Rappers,
In "Daddy's Having a Horse" there's and extended family (mum, dad, children,
grandparents, aunt and uncle) sharing their lives and experiences. The author and
illustrator have worked together to show realistic family life. The author has the
characters talking to each other in all scenes in a realistic way as they share jokes, secrets
and special /normal life experiences. In the family Sunday lunch scene the illustrator
shows the family receiving the "baby news" with happiness in teir faces, wide arms and hugging.
Emma Quay includes things in the illustrations that aren't mentioned in the text, but highlight
Lachlan is thinking "Daddy's Having a Horse" (e.g.horse-shaped cloud). Emma shows Lachlan
with his horse drawing and putting it on Daddy's tummy even before the story starts!
Daddy seems to do many home jobs, while Mummy rests before the baby. After Lachlan
realizes there's no horse he accepts Jack is around and baths, burps, rocks him and changes nappies.
Caitlin, at first, ignores Jack and plays with trains!
Bye from the Rapperoos,
GlenhavenPS
