The family in this book is a loving and affectionate family who encourages Emily through her ups and downs of wanting 'Rapunzel hair' {long red hair with blue ribbons}. Her family doesn't get angry like most families. Emily's grandma took it in responsible manner when she wanted to look for the 'Letter Box Frog'. When the family is in a crisis, they talk very calmly without any anger or grouch in their voice. When Emily wants to do something that her family isn't going to do, her family uses reverse psychology to trick her, but in a nice, kind way.
