bookwk04_rap Book Week 04 Rap Point 2

This rap point was challenging. We learnt a lot about 'reading' the illustrations in a picture book.
One group chose to look at the page in "Two Summers" where the boys are feeding the lambs.

There are lots of shades of brown, showing the dryness.
In the background the shed looks old and rusty in patches. There is no life there - no activity due to the drought. Even the gate is open. Life seems to have deserted the farm.

Rick is having a litte bit of fun feeding the lambs. The farm boy is bored. He stares ahead, in a daydream, looking uninterested in feeding the lambs. He could be thinking, "I hope no more ewes die," or "When is this tough drought going to end?"

Another group chose the double page in Mille, Jack and the Dancing Cat where Millie is dancing.

Colours chosen make the background bright and light, just like Millie. The angle has us looking front on but slightly down. This helps see for miles. Everything is open and free like Millie. Millie has her arms open wide showing her freedom.

We noticed the 2 children in the background are too having a go at dancing. they started to join in in the previous page.. Now they are more confident and getting very involved.

Another group chose the last double page spread in The Violin Man.
The is a warm glow created by the colours. Both Oscar and Marietta are in a spotlight created by the street lights. They are on their stage. We wonder why there is a little river between the two "spotlights."

There were lots of fascinating things to look at in this book and we wondered what they meant.

Happy rapping.
