Dear Rappers,
Thanks to a number of active rappers, we have received some more
responses to Rap Point 1 this week. Nearly all of these responses have used
Reggie, Queen of the Street as their focus. We’ve read recounts in third person,
‘Reggie’ poems and had a glimpse into the life of a poddy calf – a wide variety
of responses to these short-listed picture books! Thank you for sending them and
sharing your work with us.
It was good to see rappers’ thoughts about the illustrations in these
books, as you worked on Rap Point 2.
It is a challenging rap point, so well done for giving this rap
point a go. I agree with Glenroi Snowrappers that for many city rappers, the
illustrations in Two Summers could be a ‘doorway’ into country
life.
Abbotsford rappers, the Glassrappers, Mt Carmel Adelaide and the Little
Rappers in Toowoomba, mentioned the effective use of colour in the different
books they studied, pointing out how mood and atmosphere have been created by
the illustrators. Well done! Carlton South Rappers also referred to colour and
pointed out that objects (like the warm fire) also helped create
atmosphere. Wollondilly rappers
referred to the use of colour in Violin Man and also pointed out that the
size of elements enhance meaning for the reader. Well done everyone – some
excellent observations here.
If you have further thoughts on how these illustrations open ‘doorways’
for us, please email them. If you haven’t responded to Rap Points 1 or 2, we
would still like to hear from you! Send these, and all your rap messages for
students to:
bookwk04_rap@list.schools.nsw.edu.au
Are the Empire Bay rappers still with us? Please let us know where you are!
(Carlton South, and several others of us would like to add you to our
databases!)
Rap Point 3 begins this week, so please read my next message for
details.
Happy Rapping!
