Introducing Bronwyn Eagles..........
Hello everyone and welcome to the rap,
My name is Bronwyn Eagles, but most people call me Beagz. I am 21 years old and I am a Hammer Thrower. I am the eldest of eight children (7 girls and 1 boy) and I grew up on a farm just out of Camden. Currently I live in Campbelltown with 1 of my sisters.
I went to Mt. Hunter Primary School, which is a small school, west of Camden, and then Camden High School.
I will be competing in the Hammer throw on Friday the 26th of July. Our qualifying is at 12:00pm and our final is at 7:10pm. It is the first final for the Athletics program and Australia has a very good chance of taking the first three places. The other two Hammer throwers are Brooke Krueger from South Australia and Karyne DiMarco from New South Wales.
Swimming was my first sport, but constant ear infections meant I could no longer keep my head in the water for long, so I started athletics with my school friends, just for a bit of fun. Not long after I started I got a coach, who put me onto the hammer. It has now been twelve years and I am having more fun than ever.
My personal best is 69.65 metres, which puts me 2 metres ahead of the rest of the Commonwealth field. I am confident that I should win the gold medal here, however, winning is not important, it is how you perform, and I would love to throw 70 metres and that is my goal for these games.
Before arriving in Manchester, the throws group (that is all the hammer throwers, shot putters, discus throwers and javelin throwers) firstly had a training camp in Darwin, with the rest of the athletics team, then flew to Croatia, for competitions in Varazdin and Zagreb, then by bus we went to Szombathely in Hungary. Many of the world's best Hammer throwers have come from this city.
We arrived into the village on the 17th of July. I had no idea what to expect, as this is my first games. Our rooms compact. There is a desk, bunkbeds, and a tiny bathroom in each room. They usually only have one person in them, but for these games there are two. I am rooming with Karyne DiMarco, who has been my room mate since my first major championship (World Champs last year).
Here in the village we have a great dining hall, games room, webnest and a few shops, so I have not had to leave the village for anything, apart for training, which is a 20minute bus ride.
So far it has rained almost everyday, and by the looks of things it will be raining on Friday when I compete. This isn't a bad thing. I have heard that the circle here is very slow, and a little rain is going to make it faster.
Well, that's it from me for now
Until next time
Keep Smiling
