Here is a media release from the NSWIS on Petrina Price - High Jump, before the Commonwealth Games began. Interesting information to include in her character profile......
Price jumps into world junior history
Monday 22 July 2002
Petrina Price (Bulli) has claimed an Australian first and our nation's second medal at he 2002 IAAF World Junior Championships in Kingston (Jamaica).
Winning bronze in the women's high jump on Saturday (July 20). The NSWIS scholarship holder jumped consistently throughout the final, easily clearing 1.85m on her first attempt to place herself amongst the final five competitors.
The bar was then raised to 1.87m, and when two competitors missed their attempts, Price was guaranteed a medal - the first ever by an Australian in the women's high jump at a Junior World Championship.
She cleared 1.87m on her third attempt to give herself a shot at the gold medal,
but unfortunately missed all three attempts at 1.89m to finish with the bronze, bettering her seventh place at the championships two years ago.
Following her World Junior campaign, Price now travels to Manchester with a spring in her step ready to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games.
