Hello again rappers and welcome 4/5G Beauty Point rappers. I
am pleased that you are also enjoying the books. Remember to check out the
Picture Gallery because our Lalor
Park rappers, Charmaine
and Jordan, have already sent humorous pigeon cartoons to share.
This week you have been busy participating in the activities
for Rap Point 1. I hope that there has been much discussion about how humour
can be portrayed visually.
It is amazing how, with just a few lines of crayon and
minimal colour, Mo Willems manages to give the pigeon so much character. When
the pigeon is arguing that it should be allowed to drive the bus because
‘My cousin Harry drives a bus almost every day!’, the close up
image and open gesture of the stance suggest HONESTY. However, the closed eyes
and hand over the heart gesture, even without speech bubble dialogue, found on
the next page is just a little over the top to be convincing.
Mini Grey has used a double page spread to show egg climbing
the tower. Look at the detail of the bricks and the size of the stairs. Why are
we looking down on egg? Why does egg look so small?
I am looking forward to receiving your cartoons. Ask your
teacher to send them to me so that they can be included in the Picture Gallery.
Remember to post your 3
examples of how humour is portrayed visually in one of the texts response to Rap Point 1.
Happy rapping,
Mrs Keane
