fairytales05_rap Rap point 1

Hi Rappers!

Goldilocks and the three bears and Cinderella

Fractured Fairytales are a more fun way for children to read and enjoy old fairytales. We as a class like the representation of Goldilocks and the three bears and Cinderella. It subverts our view of Goldilocks and the three bears, instead of an innocent, inquisitive, and scared young girl you get a rude, spoilt drama queen. The bears’ personalities have also been altered from angry and viscous, to kind, caring yet slightly sarcastic.

In Cinderella the queen who is usually kind, elegant and takes a caring roll in the story, has been transformed into an angry moustached women concerned with materialistic objects such as her thrown also the fairy godmother has been altered from loving, wise and empathetic to slightly annoyed and feeling inclined to help the scribbling boy.

The rule of thirds is used almost continuously leaving Herb disempowered in the bottom third. Herb’s gaze is always pointed towards the story book characters while the other characters always look at him. A lot of the facial expressions reveal anger and criticism towards Herb. The book starts like any other book but begins to clutter with colour and objects. The text changes in size and font regularly. By the end of the book it has once again returned to its original state of normality to signify Herb has put everything back in place.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Book has succeeded in weaving many fairytales into one humorous book, full of colour and a style of writing that kids and adults will both enjoy. We certainly did!

Cheers 80
