fairytales05_rap Rap Point One



Hello, we are Michael, Leonard and Albert studying in 8ENG1 at Parramatta High School. In this document we will be presenting the written responses for Rap Point 1 using the book ‘Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Book’ and ‘Goldilocks’ which is one of the stories in the book.

We enjoyed Goldilocks because in the background there were alterations to characters and their possessions. The dialogue between the characters was also very amusing. For example, there were telephones, a banana label on the baby bear and the bear family had run out of ‘just right’ porridge. Also when Goldilocks called the bears ‘pea-brains’ and shouted ‘this story is called Goldilocks and the Three Bears not The Little Show-Off in Pyjamas Has Breakfast!’ was very funny. From reading the two pages where the story Goldilocks is presented, we were able to recognise the personalities and the characteristics of the characters. We found that Goldilocks was very bossy and shouted a lot.

The visual features used were the use of colour, angle and fonts of words and collage of real and original fairytale pictures. We found the angle and font of words very effective, especially when Goldilocks was shouting. When she shouted, the font was bigger than the other texts and also in bold which showed that she shouted very loudly. The colour and the text formed images and audio in our minds. It was as if we were in the fairytale next to Herb, listening and seeing everything Herb saw and everyone he met. Another visual feature used in the fairytale is the cut-and-paste theme done by Herb in the ‘real’ world. The cut-and-paste theme was comical and helped a lot at keeping us entertained.

Overall, the representation of the fairytale, alterations made to the original fairytale and the visual features used in ‘Goldilocks’, one of the stories in the “Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Book”, were exceptionally effective and entertaining.
