RESPONSE TO RAP POINT 2
Hello this is Suhil & Cem from Parramatta High School. This is our response to Rap Point 2.
The establishing sequence of “Shrek” challenges our expectations of what we expect in a traditional fairytale in a number of ways. The first example of this is when Shrek reads the fairytale and rips it up. Next is the fact that Shrek is not a prince overall. His home isn’t a fancy castle. By portraying Shrek and his Home in this way the composer shows us that this story /movie isn’t your average fairytale. And is going to be different all the way through.
Another way in which the film subverts our notion of traditional fairytales and representation of the hero is the use of close ups of Shrek doing disgusting things such as showering in mud, farting also the soundtrack used.
This has the effect of making us aware that this is not a normal fairytale.
As an audience we are positioned to respond to Shrek in a positive way through humour. This can be seen in the scene when Shrek meets Donkey and other similar scenes.
