Rap PoiNt 2
Hello this is Marie and Tugce from Parramatta high school. This is our response to rap point 2.
The establishing sequence of 
“SHREK” challenges our expectations of what we expect in a traditional fairytale in a number of ways. The first example of this is when shrek rips out a page from the fairytale book. Our expectation is that the people in the fairytale book would live happily ever after, but the character of shrek says “like that’s ever gonna happen”.
The composer makes us see that there is 2 sides of Shrek, for example his rudeness towards others, however the other side of him is very welcoming such as his home although in a swamp it is quite cozy and looks welcoming from the inside.
Another way in which the film subverts our noti0n of traditional fairytales and the representation of the hero is the use of the music (All Star by Smash mouth). This song is not your ordinary fairytale music as it is more rock-pop. Shrek is ugly, not so much a prince charming as you would expect in a normal fairytale. He lives in a swamp which is not normal for a hero. We also see close ups of him doing disgusting things like showering in mud and pulling wax out of his ears. 
(Yuk) This has the effect of making the movie funny and helps everyone relate to it.
As an audience we are positioned to respond to shrek in a positive way through humour. This can be seen in the beginning of shrek when he uses the page of the fairytale to wipe his bottom, when he farts in the water and then a fish floats up to the top (in other words dead) and when he looks in the mirror and then the mirror breaks because of his ugliness. Donkey is also another humorous character in this film.
