getactive05_rap Rap Point 3

-Hey Rappers

We have discussed the safety points that both pedestrians and bike riders should follow.

Our best information came from Fiona from Year 6, who went and talked to our Crossing Supervisor before school. Great work, Fiona.

The letters and numbers in brackets after each point show which grade groups we think this should apply to.

Pedestrian safety points.

* Always wait until buses and trucks have gone before crossing roads.(K,2,5/6)
* Wait for cars to stop before crossing.(K,2,5/6)
* Children need to walk with an adult.(K,2)

* Cross at a safe place, or, if possible, at a pedestrian crossing or traffic lights.(K,2,5/6 even adults)
* Never run across a road.(K,2,5/6)
* Wait for WALK signs at traffic lights..(K,2,5/6)

Bike Riding safety points

* Always wear a helmet..(K,2,5/6)
* Wear appropriate shoes,for example not thongs..(K,2,5/6)

* Make sure reflectors are in place..(K,2,5/6)
* Ride on the left hand side of the road, or in a bike lane if over 12 (5/6)
* Ride on a footpath if available.(K,2,5/6)

* Wear bright coloured clothing..(K,2,5/6)

We have a question to ask other rappers.

"In New South Wales, adults are only allowed to ride on the footpath if they are accompanying a child under 12. Is this rule the same for your State?"

Although this is not everything we can do to be safe, we think it is a good starting checklist.
