With a partner we researched using the internet to find four facts about
the Commonwealth Games. Some of us watched the opening Ceremony to find
information. We voted to choose the bests four facts.
1. The youngest competitor at the 2006 games is a boy from Vanuatu. He is
12 years old and is a table tennis player.
2. The Queen is the head of the Commonwealth and she sends a message to
the athletes in a baton. For the first time the baton has travelled to
every one of the 71 nations participating in the 2006 games.
3. At the opening ceremony there were 71 fish built in the Yarra River to
represent each country. Australia’s fish was a short finned eel.

4. The first games were held in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. The
2006 games are the 18th games.
