Our class worked in the same groups as last week, to look at different sports. We shared interesting information about each sport with the class. Then we voted to see which sport was the most popular.
Swimming was the most popular in our
class.
Basketball was the second most popular sport.

History
·Swimming started in 2500BC, when the Egyptians were swimming in the ocean.
·In 1843 the first freestyle technique was seen in competition, by the Red Indians.
·In 1908 FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) was setup to organise International swimming by making rules about strokes and styles.
Aim
·The aim of the sport is to swim to one end as quick as you can, in the 50 metres pool.
Rules
·Can’t change the stroke that is given to you to do
·Have to touch the wall to begin the next lap or to finish the race.
·Wait for the beep until you can start the race. If you start before the beep, you will be disqualified.

Interesting Facts
·Did you know? In 1924 and 1928, an American athlete, Johnny Weissmuller, won 5 gold and 1 bronze medals in swimming at the Olympics. He set 67 world records (swimming) and was then a famous person for playing “Tarzan” in 12 movies and
also played in “Jungle Jim”.
·Did you know? That natation is the French word for swimming! In other words FINA - Federation Internationale de Natation.
