getactive06_rap parkerville rap point 2

Dear Rappers

Sorry we are running a bit late with things but we have had a busy term with swimming lessons, Leadership days and Peer Mediation training. Here is our response to rap point 2, we will send rap point 3 on Monday.

We researched four different areas of the Commonwealth Games. Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, History and Facts.

OPENING CEREMONY

The baton entered the MCG (Melbourne cricket ground) and the message was read out.

Every athlete entered and walked a lap.

The Queens' message was about good sportsmanship and persistence.

HISTORY.

The first games where held in Hamilton, Canada.

The Games started with 11 countries and 400 athletes. They where first called the British empire games, and the changed to the British Commonwealth games, then changed once more to what we now know as the Commonwealth games.

Every country usually speaks 1 language in common: English.

FACTS.

Australia has won 1683 medals altogether. 646 Gelds, 550 Silvers, and 487 Bronzes.

The Commonwealth Games mascot is Karaka, a Red and Black Tailed Cockatoo.

The youngest athlete is 12 years old, and he plays Table Tennis.

There are 71 fish built into the Yarra River. Every one of them represents a country that participated in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Write soon, Parkerville primary School.
