Grade 1/2 Beetles from Summerdale Primary School think that HCA’s stories show us things that reflect his own life. HCA was teased and bullied when he was a boy and this is seen in the Ugly Duckling. HCA was born into a poor family and many of his stories are about poor people, such as the Little Match Girl and The Red Shoes. His dad was a shoemaker and he has stories about shoes. In HCAs stories it is often very cold and this is just like where he grew up. There are lots of snow in his stories.

We think that HCA was able to write the stories he did because of his background and if he had been born rich he couldn’t have written the same sort of stories. What does everyone else think? Bye, 1/2 Oates, Summerdale, Tasmania.
