The H.C. Andersen week

 

Lyshøjskolen had decided to celebrate H.C. Andersen’s birthday from Monday to Friday in week 5, where all pupils were in school from 8.00 to 12.50 o’clock.

The first day the whole school met in one of the sports centre in order to start the H.C. Andersen week together. We sang some songs that HC Andersen has written. One of the songs was “The Nightingale”

 

During the week each class made a project that was about H.C. Andersen. Some of the classes had made a presentation, modern versions of H.C. Andersen’s fairytales, games, role plays and quizzes. It was a very exiting week with many new facts, impressions and the pupils have tried to express those old H.C. Andersen stories in a new kind of way.

 

We ended the week with a common ending, where the whole school was together again in the sports centre, where each class had exhibited the things that they had made during the week, and the winners of the quizzes were found.

 

The week was very fun because we learned a lot about H.C Andersen, his life and his work both in English, German and Danish. We interpreted and rewrote his fairy tales and read historical texts about his life. We made role plays, which were shown to parents and other pupils. Some made huge wooden decorated jigsaw puzzles with his fairy tales etc.
